My Assault Rifle
- katie, CNN iReport producer
Why do I own this firearm? Simply, because I can. Everyone has their own hobby. For me, over the past few years it has become shooting. Every month or so I take my guns out to the range and shoot. It's thrilling, exciting and a great way to vent. Also, I'm kind of a gun snob, so most of my firearms are manufactured by Heckler and Koch.
Some people play golf, others bowl. I shoot. Sure, I could try to say that the reason I own these guns is self defense, but the truth of the matter is that although they will technically serve this purpose, they are not why I own them.
It's also nice to know that given the "state of the world today" I have a little peace of mind if the crap were to really hit the fan.
I don't hunt. I simply shoot for fun.
Banning these weapons isn't going to stop mass killings. That's as easy to understand as it gets. Evil always finds a way to be evil. The true answer is to address the real problem through proper education and understanding of firearms. Additionally, there should be tighter regulations on how and who can gain access to firearms in the first place. Many states have a "3 day waiting period" when purchasing a gun. This is supposed to stop the crime of passion. Sure, it probably works; but that doesn't stop a psychopath or a sociopath.
Educate and Regulate!
Signed,
A Liberal Gun owner.
