    The End of the World, 2012

    This day, December 20, 2012 was believed by many to mark the end of days, and the end of life on earth according to an ancient Mayan calendar.
    On this day in California, rainbows scattered in the skies around the East Bay area in Pleasant Hill and Concord.
    Some appeared as small, faint arches while others spanned the sky with diverse and dramatic colors throughout the morning and early afternoon.
    Earlier, on this fateful day, thunderstorms blew in from the Pacific with 50 mph winds predicted in the San Francisco area and produced this beautiful show farther east as the sun and rain took turns poking through overcast skies.
