Remembering MLK |
Remembering Dr. Martin Luther King
First of all, thank you Dr. King. That day after school, I was playing football in a street in Philadelphia. I was a young kid, I had my arm cocked back to the throw the ball when I heard screams that seem to come from everywhere, the loudest from my relatives house. I remember those screams today and they would be equal to vocals in stereo. The look on their faces, the tears. I remember growing up seeing Dr. King's picture in many of my relatives homes. They all would tell me the story. My great grandmother also educated me on the movement. None of our lives were the same after that. I remember my grandfather saying, "Now we're going to really get it from whitey". He was so right. I've always believed in non-violence but in this day and age people will tempt you and it's unfortunate. Many young people of the day don't even know what Dr. King did and the kids of today are so full of distractions and misinformation. I went to the Lorraine Hotel in 2000 and to my surprise, I saw Jackie Smith sleeping on a couch across from the hotel. I saw the exterior of the hotel and everything looked and felt like 1968. Everything is still there. I remembered his speech the night before his death. Aquarius and Capricorns know when death is coming, you feel it and he did. You could see in his face, how he delivered his words, the tears. Man, that's heavy. I couldn't take it and left. I hate that Dr. King was killed, pissed to be exact but I've learned a lot from him and I do know that for the rest of my life there are two places that I will never go again under any circumstance, Texas and Memphis, Tennessee. Rest in Peace and Paradise, Dr. King. And I will do my part to keep my brothers and sisters in line even though officially. I'm not my brother's keeper but I am.
