Even Marrakech, Casablanca, Fez in my '67

Europe & North Africa in my ‘67

In 1973, I bought my used 1967 Volkswagen Van in a tiny European village of Oirschot, Netherlands following several weeks of youthful backpacking. As the weather was turning cold, our new mobile home with a few modifications would shelter us for the next ten months. We moved south through Europe as the Fall turned to Winter. It carried us along the shoreline of Spain across the Strait of Gibraltar, through Morocco, deep into Algeria, Tunisia, across the Mediterranean to Sicily and Italy and across the Aegean Sea for a final journey to Greece.
In all, it required the repair of one flat tire and new battery!!

This photo was taken while sheltering on a beautiful Atlantic cliff on the western shore of Morocco. We picked mussels off the rocks, bought bread from a baker in a cave and shared our meal with a lonely Berber fisherman. Yes, we were in Marrakech, Casablanca, Fez and the Atlas Mountains. In the Spring, we said goodbye to our VW, sold it for a hundred dollars more then we paid for it and watched it drive away to offer its new owners fond memories.
