The George H.W. Bush years: Your take

    More from soldierv1

My Captain, My President, HR Buch

I did all of the work/testing to re-enlist into the US Armed Forces in 1989/1990 to become a Field Medical Specialist in our Navy and attend the armed forces FMS program at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas and was then eliminated from the opportunity when the Gramm Rudman Hollings Act was enforced a couple of weeks prior to my entrance date.

I was personally compelled to take this step fifteen years after I completed my first US Army tour in 1974. My age was the controlling feature that eliminated my qualification to re-enlist.

It broke my heart to miss the opportunity as, I sensed there would soon be a need for more FMS Service men and women to assist war wounded soldiers in the battlefield.

The aggressive Iraq military movements toward Iran and oil field takover's in Kuwait combined with knowing our military were short on certified FMS personnel drove me to re-up and serve our combat soldiers if/when we entered that war zone to protect our (US) interests there.

So, todays hindsight concerning that time and eventual Desert Storm military action reinforces my intent to serve my country again, then, and I am willing today as well. My/our then U.S. President HR Buch made a fine hero of us all by not only declaring war and invading Iraq but humbling them as well, made us all proud to be American's, doing what real American's do.

Help the helpless, defend the undefended and save those who would certainly be lost.

Hoorahhh Mr. President! Thanks for serving.

Even today I wish that I could have been there with my peer's to be part of that effort to rid the world of a tyrant. I didn't understand why HR didn't finish off Hussein then and there until I realised that HR's officially legal Declaration of War did not include killing the Iraq leader,
only saving the people of Kuwait from being slaughtered by his forces, which they surely would
have done had we not stepped in between them.
So, thank you HR, my President, my Captain and our victorious Commander in Chief of the U.S. of America.

I pray the hand of God in Christ rest upon you Sir, heal you and re-strengthen you for a good more time here with us until the right time for you is up and Jesus calls your name...HOME.

Ever what, I never met HR face to face, so, I must look forward to meeting him together in the presence of God in Christ and all of His heroes when my time on Earth is up. We don't deserve it, but He has prepared our place with Him and I plan to be there! See you later HR.

The Hand of God is on you Sir....let all of us see your big smile again, right now!
