I bought my first used VW bus (a 1973) as a college student in 1979. Drove it for thirty years and 588,238 miles. The last seven years of its life were travelling all around the country to help other old VW bus owners keep their beloved cars alive and running well. It got totalled in 2009 by a distracted teenager. Now I use an old 1970 bus to travel the country showing people how to keep their beloved old VWs alive and running well. I have a website devoted to posting travel stories and photographs, technical assistance articles, and community forums for owners of each style of old air-cooled VWs. I am an ambassador from a long-ago time where outstanding quality was a gift! from a large corporation headed by a visionary CEO (that would be Heinz Nordhoff of Volkswagenwerk), unlike today where quality seems to be an extra-cost option. Amazingly, I have visited hundreds of owners of these iconic cars, and have yet to meet one who I would consider to be "annoying". I am blessed beyond belief to enjoy this career that managed to weather the recession. I have six years of wonderful photographs and sometimes crazy stories about these cars on my site, www.itinerant-air-cooled.com
It is my life's mission to make sure these truly fun-to-drive cars can be enjoyed far into the future.
