Weekends in America
A Train Brought Back to Life
Hi my name is Tracy Kirby. My husband and I have been working very hard this year building a railroad in Williston, Fl. Last year my husband Daryl Kirby found a train that was lost, forgotten, and broken in the woods. It was sitting there for years! As soon as my husband saw it, he began to dream, and DREAM BIG! With the help of many friends, volunteers and paid labor, we have brought the TRAIN BACK TO LIFE JUST IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS!!! We recently finished restoring the locomotive and building over a mile of track! I wrapped the locomotive in over 5,000 lights and we've been celebrating a year of hard work! It’s the 3rd largest narrow gauge train in the state of Florida, besides, Disney and Bush Gardens. (My husband knows all the history of the train better than I).
This mulit-phase project will take years to complete.....we currently finished building the little over a mile track, (by hand and a rail-spiker)....and have been able to open for a SNEAK PEEK to close friends, family and facebook fans. I teach 4th grade here in our small town and it's been such a joy to offer FREE TRAIN RIDES to kids in our area. I was raised and grew up in Williston, and I just can't explain the EXCITEMENT we have as families cross the field to climb aboard THE CHRISTMAS EXPRESS!
Our own children have been dressing up in Christmas mascot costumes and riding the train with the younger children, they LOVE IT! Daryl and I have been been married for 9 years and in the midst of preparing for this First Christmas Express… …on Nov. 5th we lost a baby boy. Although baby Bryant won’t be born in the spring…..we have been able to fill that heartache with the joy we get with each little smile that climbs aboard. Last night a family brought their newborn twins to the farm, and rode. We are so blessed to help build precious family memories.
We will run through January 1st.....and wanted to share how we are spending our holiday weekends!
Wishing You A Very Blessed NEW YEARS!
The Kirby Family
