The George H.W. Bush years: Your take
Remembering the Global Image of Former U.S. Pres. George H.W. Bush
What do I remember about the global image of Pres. George H.W. Bush? He was the US President who drove the Iraqi invaders out of Kuwait I 1991. The US won the Gulf War because Former US Pres. George H.W. Bush gained strong international support to drive Saddam Hussein’s forces out of Kuwait. Though he did not depose Saddam Hussein from power, his successful campaign to drive the Iraqi invaders out of Kuwait was remarkable. It was remarkable since George H. W. Bush gained broad international support for the Gulf War and the war’s result was seen as both a military and diplomatic victory for the 1st Bush administration.
Former Pres. George H.W. Bush insisted on the idea of a ‘New World Order’. Such order means that all countries in the world would uphold the International Law and work closely with one another to solve global problems. Such term also means that countries belonging to the Free World must valiantly defend and spread democracy, freedom and human rights all over the world. The 1st Bush administration propagated such idea.
The 1st Bush administration did support peacemaking between Palestine and Israel. The said administration paved the way for the Madrid Conference in 1991.
The 1st Bush administration also drove the Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega from power. The said administration insisted that Noriega was not only a dictator, but also a drug lord and a sympathizer of Cuba’s communist dictatorship. Hence. Noriega was considered as a direct security threat to the United States by the 1st Bush administration. Noriega was accused by the US of spying for Fidel Castro.
The 1st Bush administration spearheaded the negotiations of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which would delete out the majority of tariffs on products traded among the United States, Canada, and Mexico, to encourage trade among the said countries. The said treaty advocated restrictions on patents, copyrights and trademarks. The said treaty outlined the abolition of investment restrictions among the 3 countries.
Former US Pres. George H.W. Bush was the one who signed the ‘Americans with Disabilities Act’ (ADA). The ‘Americans with Disabilities Act’ is a civil-rights law in America that ended discriminatory policies of certain firms against people who have physical and mental disabilities. Many people who have certain mental and physical disabilities wanted to work without being discriminated upon. Such a law can be considered as a victory for the vision of eliminating discriminatory policies against people who have mental or physical disabilities.
I think former Pres. George H.W. Bush served his country very well as its president. His presidency was quite productive for the US and the whole world. Former Pres George H.W. Bush can be considered as among the tough and strong statesmen during the 1990's.
