2013 Trends: Wall Calendars Hang On
Calendar themes range from the sublime to the ridiculous. Online retailer Calendar.com inventory includes subject matter ranging from Hot Royals to Edward Hopper. Calendars featuring celebrities (alive and dead) are especially in demand. Taylor Swift, Donny Osmond, Justin Bieber, Whitney Houston, Marilyn Monroe, Bob Marley, James Dean, and even John Wayne have 2013 calendars.
Tricia Helfer and Katee Sackhoff teamed up to release a stunning pictorial calendar together called Acting Outlaws. The popular actresses met while working on the Syfy series Battlestar Galactica and became fast friends. Helfer and Sackhoff took active roles in publishing their calendar. They spent days pouring over hundreds of images, choosing 15 for the calendar. “Fans have loved the images,” says Helfer of the reaction she has received from around the world. Printed on premium paper, the calendar’s striking images are suitable to frame at the end of the year. The actresses also took the unconventional approach to offer it exclusively at online retailer Redbubble.com in an effort to monitor quality control in packing and delivery. So far, sales have been brisk.
So will Helfer use her own Acting Outlaws calendar? It doesn’t look likely.
The actress, who has been honored for her advocacy on behalf of animals, says she’ll still use the old one (covered in hand-written notes and reminders) she received from the Humane Society. Helfer says, “I have a few older cats that are on medication and IV fluids, so I write it all down as a chart on the calendar days so that we have it all organized.”
For 2013, it appears wall calendars of all varieties will continue to grace the walls in America's homes and offices. Indeed, the practice of using this low-tech appointment keeper, in Helfer's house and millions across the nation is certainly in no immediate danger of going to the dogs.
