All civil rights are equal; you cannot pick the ones that you want to enforce. The real fact, the Federal and local governments have long failed to support the civil right of the 2nd amendment. New York, Chicago and Los Angeles pride themselves as co-conspirators to deny this right. With the gall and stance similar to the “old” south against African Americans. That is was too dangerous to let the African Americans to vote. The arguments against the 2nd amendment are just as bigoted and buried in ignorance, misinformation and fear. Perpetuated by a group promoting idealism and wanting to be “European” or benefit at the polling booth. The government did not try to ban part of a civil right because it was just for hunting or home protection. We didn’t solve the other civil rights problems by restricting them based on prejudice. The Federal and state government enforced the laws that were on the books and society addressed the social issues. It’s time for those forward and progressive thinkers to accept the 2nd amendment and for the government to protect it. It may be cheaper and more comfortable to restrict someone elses right and pass a law than to deal with the real social problems. But it is our alcohol culture, drug culture, our violence culture mixed with bottom level funding for mental health (amongst others) that is the root of the problem. How well did the alcohol ban, the drug ban do? The deaths from these non-rights far exceed gun deaths.
