    Life in China

Geographic and Ethic Diversity in China

For 10 years I have been living and working in China. It has been amazing to watch the economic changes evolving as life for the common people has improved dramatically. Yet as the economic miracle has unfolded, ironically the next generation of leaders will be tested. The generation of business and government leaders lived through a period where the improvements are so dramatic, that almost any form of in-equality. However the younger generation who have a very different frame of reference will be the likely judges of the societal developments. The frame of reference of the younger generation is nearly 3 decades of growth above 8%. They are much less likely to be as accepting of the political and economic in-equalities. I think within that back drop the status of woman and the 50+ ethnic minority groups are voices waiting to be heard. It is yet to be seen how well the party can adjust to these changing perceptions of the progress made and the progress expected.
