New Years Day in The Cold Water of the Yongjiang River in Nanning, China
This video is a Swim by many local people in the Cold Yongjiang River in Nanning, China. This is to commemorate the Swim by Mao Zedong in the same area of this river, almost 50 years ago. He swam this water in January of that year also. Approximately 1,000 simmers took part in this very festive event. Hundreds of local residents came out early to watch the brave swimmers get across the river before hypothermia set in. It was an enjoyable atmosphere for the onlookers.
I am told through my wife who can read Chinese, that many people from other cities within Guangxi Province took part in this swim, and many were sponsored by schools, hospitals, police departments and companies.
