The fiscal cliff: Messages to Washington

    Republicans do your job!

I am so tired of all this dysfunction in Washington. I am so sick of it that I did something this past election that I have never done before. I voted straight Democrat. I am 52 y.o. and have always voted for whom I think is the better candidate(s). However this past election was very different, for the following reason. In the height of the recession the republicans made a national proclamation that "their number one priority was to see to it that Obama was a one term president." HUH??? They then proceeded to play obstructionist in every measure that came down the pike, hoping that in each measure's defeat we would blame the President. What the republicans failed to realize is their number one priority is to help the people they represent. Their course of action which was defined by that national proclamation has caused the people in this country to suffer through the worst situation since the Great Depression. I will never forget the day they made that statement and I will never vote for a republican in a very long time. Their strategy failed and we elected the President for a second term. Rather than bowing to the will of the people they have continued their arrogant dysfunctionality and even to this moment are holding us all hostage with this cliff deal. Why did the republican leadership in the House not have their members working on New Years Eve and ready to take a vote on a bill. Even this afternoon Cantor said he isn't supporting the bill. They won't even vote on the bill today! What is more important that they have to do? Again the republicans are demonstrating what they are really about and reinforcing to me that I have made the correct decision to not vote for a single republican in a very long time. Let's get angry and flood their office phones and web sites telling them we disapprove of how they have handled this, then vote them out of office next election. Good bye Republicans!!! Mainly because of this but also because of your positions on social issues, immigration, and especially seniors as well. You have become the Party of NO and now we are going to say "NO" to you on election day...Robert A. Zanol
