The fiscal cliff: Messages to Washington

    To The Woodshed!

A the end of Will Ferrell’s latest comedy “the Campaign," his sleazy character admits he’s a great candidate but a poor congressman, enjoying the perks while throwing his constituents’ best interests under the bus.

That movie doesn't feel very funny now. I feel like one of Cam Brady’s constituents right now, knowing as most Americans do, what needs to be done and urging our “leaders” to LEAD, while instead they posture and preen for cameras and sound bites, hoping we forget this tawdry, embarrassing example of governance by the next election.

Harry Reid today said “Glad it’s over.” Mr. Reid, it’s not even begun. My family is fortunate…my husband and I have jobs, but as our elected officials play chicken with my family’s future, our savings, like so many, have shrunk along with our options. No choice of schools for our kids now, no vacations, Christmas “gifts” this year were repairs to our home.

America has always been about options—hard work offering reward, and good leaders returning the favor with, well, leadership.

Congress complained they had to work through the holidays, and the best they could do for their constituents was a cheap imitation of leadership or compromise. Every single one of our Representatives, Senators and their staff, who have clearly been giving them precious little in the way of guidance or advice about how to represent their districts, should be taken out behind the woodshed for a painful taste of the reality they’ve just laid upon the American public. And I’d expect them to suck it up, just like they’re asking us to. For shame! For shame.
