New Year's Eve in Suriname - Owru Yari
Thousands of people get together on the morning of 31th of December in downtown Paramaribo. The roads are blocked by the police. The firefighters are alert and helping companies to set up huge strings of firecrackers, called pagaras in Suriname. You can almost call it a firecrackers ceremony!
After this, it's time for party on the streets. The soundtruck of the best allround musicband in Suriname, South South West drives in between the crowd. Everyone is dancing together.
Suriname is known for the people of multiple religions living together in peace. On New Year's Eve you can see the proof of this everywhere in the city!
The party goes on till 6pm. After this everyone party further at other locations. At midnight everyone returns home to welcome the new year with the family.
There is no place in the world where New Year's Eve is celebrated so big as in Suriname!
