What was your best moment of 2012?

    QUEEN'S DIAMOND JUBILEE

The expected diamond jubilee celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II in 2012 captured the nation's hearts and provided wonderful personal moments of reflection. For me, a 1945 baby living in war-torn, battle-scarred London the actual discomforts my parents suffered were spared to me and my older brother. I guess a touch of utilitarianism just seemed normal. Food rationing in Britain ended in 1952 and at eight years old I joined a huge crowd of parents and children to celebrate the Queen's coronation in 1953.

From some quite miserable times of make-and-mend to not having any much at all my mother and father's good nature and humourous characters seemed to change that day. Every adult appeared to sense a new beginning - a new Elizabethan age.

The Queen's remarkable reign has encompassed some amazing developments; moved with the changing times both technologically and cultural. My photograph taken in the main hall at Covent Garden, London bedecked with flags two days before the celebrations began had a noisy anticipation from Londoners and visitors. The event had drawn thousands of foreign visitor to the capital and would again in a few months for the London Olympics where again her Majesty would take centre stage.

As head of state the Monarch is apolitical a wonderful rarity in today's democracy, an asset within the global community. She has carried out her duties and obligations with aplomb, serves tirelessly, and has the love of the nation.
