    Almost Speaker Of The House

    Today's election in the House of Representatives saw the great Orange- American John Boehner reelected but he wasn't the only candidate nominated for the post. By tradition the Speaker is a member of the House but its not a requirement. Rep Jim Cooper (D-TN) nominated and voted for former Sec State Colin Powell to be the next speaker. Rep Cooper also received two vote to be Speaker. Also receiving votes were Rep Nancy Pelosi, Rep Eric Cantor, Rep Allen West among others. To my knowledge there has never been a Speaker Of The House who was not also concurrently an elected Representative.
