An open letter to medical "professionals" and insurance companies

While I readily and often talk about America being the greatest country in the world, I do need to mention one deep, dark, sad and embarrasing truth about America.  Dont tell anybody, but if you are a chronically sick person, no one gives a shit. You will not get the help you need, pay for and just plain deserve as a human being. Its a nightmare being chronically ill in the United States. I pay a fortune for insurance but help and treatment is almost impossible to receive. The insurance company can just outright refuse to pay for my meds at any random time, so on top of what I pay them every month I'm spending well over $300 a month on meds out of pocket as well. And it seems that just about every month, they decide they don’t want to pay for yet another few medications, with no explanation for the changes other than the fact that I will have to be completely out of pocket for them as well. The good news is for 2013, I get to pay even more for this fantastic insurance!  WTF are sick people supposed to do? Its like they're trying to make u homeless if you have health issues

You are truly punished if you are chronically ill in America.  I say this not only due to my many difficult and ongoing experiences but also of good friends and family that have also been through similar to varying degrees.  And think, compared to 90% of Americans Im considered rich! Can you imagine what the poor must go through if no one even is willing to help even a single guy making 6 figures? My $$ doesnt even get me the help and care I need, imagine if I had none?

It seems Ill have the answer to that last question soon as being this sick for over a year now, I am damn near completely broke. And I have no income coming in because though I have been taken out of work on disability, the follow up paperwork still hasn’t been completed by the Drs. So Im in the awesome, uniquely priveleged middle position where not only am I not collecting a paycheck, I'm also not receiving my disability checks. Keep in mind, this disability insurance is also not a hand out, I pay for this coverage as well.  3 times a week or more Im on the phone with the Drs and all Im ever told is “it wasn’t my fault” by each and every single person I speak to. Do these people, these "professionals" really not just understand I don’t give a $%^& whose fault it is, I just need it done?  Can they not all bicker and blame one another time after their sick patient has at least had his pressing issues addressed?

I love this country, my country, with all of my heart. But if you become ill here, this country doesn’t want you. If you have a condition with extreme symptoms, they will try to throw some drugs at you and see if they stick.  If not, they might try the same a time or 2 again, and then youre done.  If they havent been able to figure out what is wrong with you in 2 20 minute office visits which are little more than drug prescription sessions for symptoms, then you are just making it up.  Or you are crazy.  Or you are imagining how little of your life you have left due to the illness.  Youre just an annoyance that would do everyone a favor by simply vanishing into thin air or worse, taking drastic measures of your own, so none of them have to be bothered anymore at that point.
