Objectification of Woman in India
Various dimensions exist which may result in a mindset change in perceiving woman as an Object.
Undoubtedly the biggest question that 2012 has posed - "What" is a Woman in India.
I have been watching all the anger and despair People has been pouring out for the last 2 weeks.
What so ever be the means of protest and credibility of protestors, the intent behind it is definitely worth the act.
Its also quite amusing, that my own friends who make passive lewd comments on attractive women they see around, have become angels & advocates on crimes against women.
My two cents on this topic.
Object - a thing, person, or matter to which thought or action is directed [ courtesy :dictionary.reference.com/browse/object ]
In that context, A woman at least , as of now is an Object - Perceived for pleasure, venting out chauvinist frustrations, in advertisements as a tempting material , the list goes on.
Unless this objectification ends [ unlikely because we live in ultra consumer centric world, where things don't sell unless flaunted by a skimpy model ] , Women will be attacked.
Unless the parents who encourage their kids to follow the Munnis and Sheilas of the Movies, also educate them that its not the real world, Women will be molested.
Unless the education system do not equip girls on identifying the predators around and defend them against exploitations, Women will be continue to be ashamed .
Unless the people and media relentlessly pursue justice for years to come , forcing the government to enforce and protect, Women will remain Objects.
Unless Women stop seeing themselves as Objects, and start Objecting without fear , they will continue to be humiliated .
Maybe Mayans predicted an end in 2012 to this brutal world of inequality . As 2013 rises in the horizon, we offer a little prayer to make this world a better place to live. Happy New Year !
