    And, while Americans were sleeping... the "Unconstitutional Surveillance Powers" became Law. We were so busy focusing on the "Fiscal Cliff" that we didn't notice that President Obama signed FISA's five year extension. Now the feds do not need a warrant to listen to phone calls, read emails or conduct surveillence of any kind. Samantha Peetros, the communications specialist with the Bill of Rights Defense Committee explained what has happened while we were sleeping.  The BORDC released a statement saying that: "In a 73-23 vote on December 28, the Senate overwhelmingly authorized the extension of warrantless domestic mass wiretapping for another five years".

    The vote for unconstitutional surveillance powers was one of this term’s few notable reflections of bipartisanship, coming at the expense of transparency and rights guaranteed under the Fourth Amendment.
