    Epiphany is celebrated on January 6th for the Gift of the Magi

     

    Epiphanous Manifestation of Life and the Wonders of the Human Condition.  Today is Sunday, January 6 th  celebrating Epiphany for the Three Kings of the Orient who guided by the North Star arrived bearing gifts of incense, gold, and myrrh for the newborn baby Jesus in the manger, first son of Joseph and Mary who were homeless, living by the stable with the shepherds and the farm animals.    Christians celebrate Epiphany on the day of the Magi around the world, remembering the magic of Christmas and the newborn baby son of Joseph and Mary seeking shelter in the stable during their homeless journey.    Armenians around the world also celebrate Christmas today for the new millennium in the 21 st  century.  Twenty-seven years ago, I travelled to Turkey in the Middle East and visited the Holy Land, following a Christian pilgrimage in Istanbul, the old capital of Constantinople, visiting historic Byzantine landmarks such as the Church of Aya Sophia, as well as the beautiful Topkapi, the Blue Mosque.    The Christian missionaries from the World Council of Churches invited us to tour historic Biblical landmarks.  Epiphany is originally a Greek word  via Church Latin from Greek  epiphaneia  an appearing, from  epi-  +  phainein  to show  which translates into English as a manifestation or realization of a wondrous event defined as “ any moment of great or sudden revelation” .  [Middle English  epiphanie , from Old French, from Late Latin  epiphania , from Greek  epiphaneia ,  manifestation , from  epiphainesthai ,  to appear  :  epi- ,  forth ; see  epi-  +  phainein, phan-
