Recall For Hip Implants Comes Too Late
Florida attorney Spencer Aronfeld discusses the recent recall of Stryker hip implants. Thousands of across the country have artificial hips implants made by Stryker. Many are suffering from pain, fluid and swelling . Stryker's Rejuvenate artificial hip implant was approved as an improvement over traditional metal on metal hips due to its modular design.
Stryker told both doctors and their patients Rejuvenate implants would fit better, be easier to install and create less problems. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
According to a prominent South Florida orthopedic surgeon, Stryker was the only major company smart enough not to do metal on metal bearings. Then they erroneously used an inferior metal matching on their modular necks. Stryker used a new titanium alloy femoral component against a cobalt chrome alloy neck.
Patients across the country are now facing complicated revision surgery to remove or modify the defective components. Revision surgeries are more dangerous for patients than the initial implantation.
