    Deportation Papers, Not Driver's Licenses.

    CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Illinois lawmakers approved a new measure Tuesday that would allow immigrants in the country illegally to get temporary driver's licenses if they have lived in the state for more than a year. The governor said roads will be safer if everyone is required to learn to drive safely and purchase insurance. Three other states have similar provisions. (Read more here.) DaElmersBack, a frequent iReport commentator in Iron Mountain, Michigan, says giving driver's licenses to people who live here unlawfully 'is more or less telling them it is ok to be in this country. That is not OK ... Those not [here legally] shouldn't be here in the first place. Why are we not enforcing laws and saving America millions?'

    When President Obama was elected the first time, he said he would deal with Immigration. Almost immediately he did the unthinkable and went after states who enforced federal laws about illegal immigrants. Instead of helping and solving this problem America was facing, I believe he made it worse. Now 4 years later it quite obvious that this is still a problem.

     

    When any states come to a conclusion that there is a problem concerning "Undocumented Immigrants" as they are calling them, this tells me we are not doing enough to remove unwanted and illegal immigrants from our country. These people shouldn't be given any drivers licenses, they should be arrested and charged for being here illegally then deported. Why are we rewarding people who trespassed and crossed into the US illegally? They broke the law on their first step here.

     

    This is a very touchy issue for me, I believe our borders remain very un-secure (obviously) and at any time we could be attacked by anyone from anywhere due to our open border policy. When will President Obama tackle this issue he promised so long ago?
