Gun control debate: Background checks |
What makes a rifle Evil?
One thing that drives me crazy as a gun rights supporter is the proponents of the ban don’t have a clue why they want to ban something. From the famous “shoulder thingy that goes up” comment by Carolyn McCarthy when asked why she wanted to ban a barrel shroud (a barrel shroud goes over a barrel to keep you from being burned by a hot barrel) or wanting to ban a bayonet lug ( because the papers are filled with drive by bayonettings) it is hard to have a common sense discussion about something when the person you are having the discussion is talking from a place of emotion instead of fact.
It makes as much sense as wanting to ban all black sports cars with tinted windows but brown cars with no window tint are good to go. I mean who knows what is going on behind those blacked out windows and that evil black paint?
According to the FBI’s universal crime report rifles of all kinds were involved in 323 homicides out of 12,664 firearm related homicides or about 2.5% in 2011. A person that had the intent to kill someone was involved in 100%.
Where should we really start this discussion?
