Your memorable Tube journeys |
London's "Canada Neighbourhood"
- sarahbrowngb, CNN iReport producer
As a Canadian, the "Canada Water" tube stop, and the "Canada" part of London never fails to have me grinning from ear to ear.
In this neighbourhood, One Canada Square is actually the UK's second tallest building, housing offices for some of the UK's largest companies. But what really makes me smile is how many Canada names this area of London has. This modern new area, within the greater area of Canary Wharf, has countless Canadian named buildings and streets -- from Canadian provinces to major city names. It even pays homage to Canada's national symbol as one of the newest modern apartment developments is called "Maple Quays."
I have always loved London, but sadly I didn't know about this area within Canary Wharf when I lived there a few years ago. However, you can imagine my excitement when I discovered this area during a recent trip back to London to visit friends (who, though they are not Canadian, coincidentally now live near the Canada Water tube stop, in what I like to affectionately call London's "Canada neighbourhood"). So, in a way, when I arrive at the Canada Water tube stop to visit them in London now, it feels a bit like coming home...
