Carlebach Cup of Love and Prayer Priced at $2,500
(thejfile.com) Shlomo Carlebach – also known as “Reb Shlomo” and “The Singing Rabbi” during his lifetime – was known chiefly for two things: his music and his pioneering work with the Baal Teshuva movement, which encouraged disenchanted Jewish youth to re-embrace their heritage.
On Monday, January 14th, Carlebach’s daughter, Neshama Carlebach, a musician in her own right, and antique Judaica expert Jonathan Greenstein, will unveil a Kiddush cup that they co-designed in memory of Rabbi Carlebach.. The cup, made out of two pieces of .925 silver by Greenstein’s silversmith in Jerusalem, is hand engraved with the words: “Good Shabbos, Good Shabbos, The Cup of Love and Prayer”, and was specially designed with a rounded base so that the cup must be passed hand to hand, from person to person.
The vessel is one of ten identical cups; each is priced at $2,500 with a portion of sales going to the Israel Children’s Cancer Fund.
