Maha Kumbh Mela 2013 - Largest Gathering of People in the World
Day one of 55 at the Maha Kumbh Mela festival in Allahabad, India. This is the largest gathering of people in the world, and happens once every 12 years, at the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna river, and mythical, invisible Saraswati river.
Last time (2001), the opening day alone had 3x the population of Australia in attendance, and this year is expected to be bigger. New Yorker Michael Balonek shares videos and photos of this major event.
