Cuba is our neighbor and too many years have passed since we had our problems with Fidel. I was a teenager when the Bay of Pigs happened. I am on Social Security now and still can't legally visit there. It is time to admit we made a huge mistake (either formally or informally) and normalize relations with this tiny island near Florida. We try to fix Iraq, Afghanistan, Grenada, Egypt, Libya, Iran, Korea, and many more but don't seem able to address the small country of Cuba as a neighbor and friend. Just like East Germany (not to mention the whole of the USSR) we can do more good in Cuba by raising their economy and allowing tourism dollars to flow from the US to Cuba than all the stupid sanctions and political hardheadedness that we seem to relish on imposing on this small island so close to us. It is way past time to normalize all relations with this small island country and move forward in our own region. I urge President Obama to make this a priority and set the example for the rest of our foreign adversaries that we do want peace and freedom for all our friends and enemies alike. Now is the time and he must move decisively to fix this gigantic blunder that is over 50 years in the making.
