Chitradurga, is the district head quarters. It has a very big fort built by Madakarinayaka, once a lord or a pale gar of that region. The region receives very scanty rain fall during the year and the natives of this place face acute drinking water problem. This is the annual feature. Some times ones in 12 years it rains heavily and the tanks will be full.
One can find rocks every where, and they are very big and it can be used in building construction. There are no industries around and land is plenty. The water shortage has made the place very backward compared to the near by places.
Now, drinking water supply has been restored from Hiriyur, which is near by and the water pipes laid will pass to the neighboring town, Holalkere as well !
