    Jakarta Flooding 1/17/2013

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Canadian jeffdmc says getting around in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, has proved impossible in recent days due to severe flooding in the city. Heavy rains are common in the country this time of year, but the severity has been particularly bad in 2013, with even the city's business district -- as shown in these images -- suffering from flooding. "Traffic detours and impassable areas due to flooding are causing worse than normal traffic jams," he said. "We stay generally in the two block radius of our apartment, where we have everything we need. For now -- I'm walking."

jakarta has received it's full monthly rain average in just half the month so far, saturating the ground and easilly over running the rivers & dams whenever there's a strong downpour like this morning. I took some photos of a main street (Sudirman) in central jakarta near my apartment this morning at 9am local time (9pm wed night for east coast usa/canada). I am a Canadian temporarilly stationed abroad in SE Asia on business.
