The first sunrise of the year

Have you ever seen the first sunrise of the year? This is the first sunrise of 2013 in Hyogo prefecture, Japan, which located in western Japan. I saw it when visiting my relative’s house. The first sunrise is more special than ordinary ones. There is a tradition in Japanese culture where people pray to the first sunrise of each new year so that their hopes may come true. You can see the first sunrise from the seaside, mountains, bridges, verandas and so on with your family, friends, lovers, and pets or alone. Many Japanese people visit these spot to see the first sunrise, but not everyone does it every year. I saw it with my family at the side of an airport runway. There were about 25 people besides us. In 2012, I could not see the first sunrise because it was cloudy. Actually, this year was the first time to do this in my life. The first sunrise seemed different than an ordinary one because it was so brilliant, and I felt the sun’s great existence. We left my relative’s home at 5:00 a.m., and went to the airport. The sun had not risen yet. The air was very cold, and I lost all feeling in my hands and feet. However, as the sun started to rise, my body gradually grew warmer. I could feel the sunrise’s warmth sinking deeply into my mind. As the sun slowly rose, people admired and clapped their hands. The first sunrise reassured me and gave me vigor. I prayed strongly for my family’s health and decided that I will do my best in everything this year. I heard that New Zealand is the place where the sun appears earliest in the world. I will try to visit there next year. You should try to do that!
