    Jakarta floods

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Teacher Pramod Kanakath captured these images of Indonesians struggling through flood waters using any means at their disposal -- from boats to waterlogged taxis to just plunging into the waters. The city has been hit by its worst flooding in years, which has caused the deaths of at least 11 people, authorities say. "[People] near my apartment found themselves in water last week and moved to the basement of my building for shelter," Kanakath said. "The street in front of my apartment is still flooded. The local police are trying their best to evacuate flood affected people [but] the city needs better planning to avert flood-related disasters."
    - sarahbrowngb, CNN iReport producer

Most parts of Jakarta have been flooded for the past few days and some parts still remain inundated. I stay in Central Jakarta from where I got these pictures. Most schools and offices remain closed. The local administration has declared emergency till 27th January. Thousands are left homeless.
