    Gun Control?

The multiple mass shootings the United States has had to endure over the years has been horrible. Many have a fear of firearms as they can take a life extremely quickly. However, weapons should not be feared; they should be respected for their power. One person armed with a weapon can kill another. In the shootings around the United States the shooters of the innocent victims were all considered to have some sort of mental disability while they committed their acts of horror. A weapon can kill. So can a vehicle. How many people die from drunk drivers? Are we now going to take away auto transportation? People overdose on prescription drugs. Are pharmaceuticals the next to go? People are also murdered via knives. Will knives too be banned from ownership? Or an axe? A machete? Rope or wire that can strangle? Why don’t we close down bars because they served the alcohol and let their patrons leave? Why don’t we get rid of cell phones because people text, drive, and crash cars?

The weapon of choice is not the issue in any type of murder, other than evidence and proof. The issue is the murderer. Did Obama say “we need to hold people accountable?” I think he did. Why then is the murderer or shooter or killer not the center of the issue? Instead, the United States government called for stricter gun laws; gun laws that will not affect criminals, but law-abiding citizens. Criminals will still have their guns, and still kill if they feel the need. The only difference is law-abiding citizens will not have the means to defend themselves. Many people within the United States call the newly proposed gun laws a success, but are they?

The new gun laws call to ban assault weapons and “high capacity” magazines. Ten rounds is not high capacity. The assault weapons targeted are guns like AR-15s, which I must remind; only fires one round at a time, the same as a hunting rifle. Are hunting rifles going to be banned as well? The “new laws” call for thorough background checks; aren’t they supposed to happen anyway? The Second Amendment, created be the Framers of the United States, was and is very clear, stating the fact that people have the Right To Bear Arms. Many will argue about the definition and meaning of Arms. The constitution is a document written in black and white. The Right To Bear Arms means the Right To Bear Arms, what those Arms are are my shotgun, my pistols, my rifles, and my AR-15’s. Many will ask why I need or want these. As a military veteran, weapons instructor for our countries service members, and having been deployed to the Middle East, you just never know when a bad guy is going to try to bad things to good people.

Gun control is not the answer for people doing bad things. Taking guns away will only increase the number of innocent victims. If the American people really want their children protected at school then call for armed guards at every school. I’m pretty sure any veteran or current service member would gladly protect our nations kids from perpetrators. How many parents will consent to that? Or, how many in our government would ever propose having armed guards? People cry about guns, why don’t we just protect people instead? Many of the shootings could have been hindered or averted rather quickly had their been armed personnel on scene. However, it all comes boiling back to one agenda, the person doing the killing should be held responsible for his/her actions and not the people who obey the law.
