The ups and downs of online dating |
My online dating story
I consider online dating to be nightmarish and desperate; especially, given the fact that people lie habitually on their profiles. Even the pictures are too good to be true. However, two of my best friends had some great success with it. I was a real skeptic. Reluctantly after being lectured on the success of the whole online dating thing, I gave it a try. What a mistake that was. I ended up meeting girls, who turned out to be much older or much younger than me and looked different in person than online. To make matters worse, they turned out to have boyfriends or kids, despite saying the opposite. Many of the girls I ended up meeting were just plain sketchy. It turns out that the girls did drugs, had no car, no real job and wanted someone to take care of them. I’m not into that. Okay, so maybe I’m being harsh. My problem was that the profiles I read and the people I met didn’t add up. My friends were willing to meet random strangers who they didn’t know at all. That’s not me. After meeting enough random people, I decided that individuals who date online are just outright desperate. It’s like rushing the process and not letting things happen in time. Think about it. Chatting online with someone you can’t see, you don’t know anything about is not smart. I never gained anything meaningful from online dating. A profile does not match people together. Friendships that happen in time do. Never again will I become so desperate and put my information out there. The way I see it, online dating is for the risk takers and I would advise people to use extreme caution. I thought online dating was safe and I ended up meeting girls who were total psychos. It’s not worth it to me. I’d rather just let things happen in time and focus on the areas of life that I can control. It didn’t work out for me.
