Renewable Gun License Proposal
All the Sandy Hook parents that have lost their lovely children, and now, they have become parents of every child that needs protection from this ever happening again. Time for Change.
It is time for Renewable Gun Licenses!
We need a new "Gun Safety Law" that does not violate 2nd Amendment Rights.
We do not need another gun control law that will not make a real difference , we need a NEW “Gun Safety Law” to help stop future victims from this type of crime.
I believe there may be a way to have better gun safety without violating anyone's constitutional rights!
The answer is "Renewable Gun Licenses".
We can't do anything about the guns that are already out there now, but we sure can regulate the bullets! All gun owners eventually need to buy bullets to keep using their guns, I know this because I am a lawful gun owner and a NRA member. Guns can not hurt anyone without bullets!
All gun owners should have to have a gun license just like a drivers license. They should have to pass a gun safety test to obtain a gun license. Then renew the license every few years so the gun owner can be retested on gun safety and questioned on their current medical and mental condition, just like when renewing drivers licenses. If someone has a stroke and it causes medical or mental problems the drivers license will be taken away to protect others from harm and it should be the same with guns.
Gun owners would only be able to buy the bullets if they have a valid and current gun license. Then there can be a database on all gun owners. Just like with traffic fines, law enforcement personnel would be able to look up the type and quantity of bullets the gun owners are buying and if they have any new criminal records or mental instability that would disallow purchasing guns or bullets. This way if someone has a problem that came up after they legally purchased a gun, it could be a red flag and may mean the owners needs to give up their gun license. Also, the bullets can have serial numbers to be traced if used in a crime or stolen or resold illegally just like when a car is stolen.
Every state has a DMV. There are different classifications of drivers licenses, for example cars, buses, large trucks and motorcycles. There should also be a different classification for gun types. We could simply add another classification to existing drivers licenses or ID cards to show that a person is a licensed gun owner authorizing them to purchase bullets from an authorized gun dealer/bullet seller. The DMV is already set up with a massive database. It should not be hard to set up a gun safety department within the DMV. This way law enforcement can check a gun owners status just by checking their private drivers license records.
This proposed law will not violate any constitutional rights. This will promote gun safety and education. I don't think many will debate this except for the unlawful. This new department can be called the DMVGS for Department of Motor Vehicles and Gun Safety. This is the time to get a bill like this passed!
This new proposed bill should be called the Sandy Hook law in honor of the victims.
This will not solve all the gun violence problems and it will take a while for the full effect of gun licensing and bullet purchase tracking to take hold, but it is very good way to get started!
This new Gun Safety Law will speak to the future. Times are changing, we have a massive database on cars, why not guns? Our 2nd amendment rights will be protected as long as we are lawful.
