Guaruja Region - Nice view, but dangerous

Shame on Guaruja! This region use to be commonly known for its luxury condos, beautiful beaches, a place to relax; however now-a-days things changed drastically. In the past couple of years the region has become very dangerous.

Everywhere tourists go, they must take off all their jewelry (including fake ones), watches, and avoid using clothes from expensive brands. The situation got so extreme that even old shoes are being disputed.

Those delinquents are killing people any time of the day for fun, a simple pair of shoes, a hat, or anything they believe it is worth money.

A recent example of this violence occurred a few days ago when a woman had her hand wounded by a teenager that stole her wristlet. It is overwhelming to know that people are at risk anywhere; such as the sidewalk, the beach, supermarket, etc…

By law thieves under 18 year old cannot be arrested, which aggravates the situation and put people’s safety at a greater risk. After contacting the local police department, they informed that they are attempting to keep the area safe, but clearly their efforts haven’t been sufficient.

In order to take a look at other occurrences, take a look at the “Baixada Santista Region” newspapers. Hopefully the Public Security Services will improve in time for the world cup.
