Rains batter Pablo-affected areas anew, and more

    By Ben O. Tesiorna

Two days of incessant heavy rain in most of the Pablo-affected areas in the Davao Region have brought flooding in several areas including those not much affected by the January typhoon.

In Davao City, as of Sunday afternoon, areas affected by flooding are Matina Gravahan, Jade Valley, NCCC Subdivision, Deca Tigatto, GEM and Don Julian in Maa, San Rafael and other areas near the Davao River.

The city government’s assets in water rescue is no match to the high demand of people needing assistance that Mayor Sara Duterte appealed to Dabawenyos who could lend their water assets like rubber boats and jetskis to the rescuers.

In Davao delNorte, several towns are also flooded. The Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction Management office said the entire town of Kapalong is underwater. Also affected are the towns of Asuncion, Talaingod, and Braulio Dujali.

In Davao Oriental, another bridge collapsed due to the flooding brought about by the rains from the Low Pressure Area. The Caraga Bridge in sitio Papag, Barangay San Jose in Caraga town collapsed due to the rampaging floodwaters and huge logs.

In Compostela Valley, towns that are inundated on Sunday were Montevista, Maco, Compostela, and Laak.
