Wintry weather |
The Swan
Bread rations from the humans were down to a trickle as not many people would bother to go all the way to the riverbanks to feed the birds in such wintry weather.
This afternoon I walked the dog by the river, armed with several portions of stale breakfast rolls for my feathered friends.
It was fascinating. Within seconds, ducks of all shapes and feathers, seagulls and swans gathered around us, their shrieking tunes announcing the presence of food to each other.
The seagulls caught the bits mid-air with skillful precision, displaying the ultimate in acrobatic finesse.
Ducks straggled haphazardly trying to catch bits that flew over them, trampling over each other as they did so.
But...what wowed me was in fact ... The SWAN!
In a sudden flash, its feathers spread in a fiery burst, ready for battle...transforming the graceful swan I knew to a mean, brutal warrior!
The other birds scattered, terrified, making way for the majestic Swan.
Even my Maltipoo frozed in fear as the Swan ballooned into twice his size, finally coming to a standstill as it wrapped it wings around its torso, claiming complete victory.
Simply Spectacular. Simply Amazing.
