this is one of the scenes in the PEACE MURAL event in Patikul, a town greatly known for wars and high level kidnappings. This is the perennial hiding place of the extremist group abu sayyaf and the usual destination of hostages.according to reports, there are still 5 foreigners in captivity there and a 1 year old baby was abducted the day we arrived in the island.but despite all that, around 200 students, teachers, out of school youth, and other sectors of the community came and volunteered to paint the murals. They remain hopeful that both sides of the conflict will eventually decide to embrace peace and development for the common good.this photo of me was taken by NGO worker Mercia Salarda Alli.
