CNN PRODUCER NOTE     ely55731 shot this video of her husband performing a popular weather trick -- turning boiling water into ice crystals with the flick of a wrist. They live in Ely, Minnesota, where school was called off Wednesday because of temperatures hovering around negative 30 degrees Fahrenheit.

The iReporter and her husband knew that the water should vaporize if there was a large enough difference between the two temperatures, but they were surprised it worked so well. Harder was getting the video, she said.

'The iPad was very cold and was hard to hold on to with mittens. So I had to use one mitten and have my bare hand on the iPad to press the record button.'

They weren't the only ones trying out this cold-weather experiment Wednesday. A special education teacher in Ottawa, Canada, entertained his students with the feat, and a 16-year-old in Merrill, Wisconsin, tried it out in minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit.
