A clear Shanghai night
After visiting Beijing on its worst pollution day ever, then traveling to four other cities in a week (Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, and Shenzhen) and watching the air pollution drift and cover the country, Shanghai was impressively clear that evening.
The pollution from the airplane gave the best overview of the problem, a vast swath of grey brown haze blanketing remote areas, valleys, and mountain tops stretching the Sino horizon.
Clear nights like these are getting rarer and rarer for a nation that is battling the balance between explosive industrial growth, and the future health needs of it urban inhabitants.
