Have you ever listened to an a-cappella song? A-cappella can be classified into classical and popular music types. The classical types are sung in a church. Popular types are sung everywhere and it has many artists. I would like to talk about the popular music type. I am a university student in Japan and belong to an a-cappella club. In Japan, a-cappella has become more and more popular in recent years. When I was a child, a TV program about a-cappella started and was a big reason for its popularity in Japan. After I saw this TV program, I thought that I wanted to do that as well. That’s why I belong to an a-cappella club now. I joined forces with six members as soon as I entered. Our group consists of one main vocalist, three choruses, one bass and vocal percussion. My part was chorus. All members are girls of the same age and beginners, so we repeated trial and error many times during our practice. I sang with this group for a year and eight months. We sang songs by a-cappella groups, J-pop, and Western songs in the school festival or some events held outside the university. However, some members will go study abroad, so we have decided to suspend our group activity recently. Our last stage performance was our club’s Christmas concert held on December 14th. Sometimes I wanted to leave the group for reasons like human relations, but now I am proud that I sang. If I have a chance to sing with this group again, I want to do so with the same members. If you are interested in a-cappella, I really recommend that you try it.
