    Sierpe, Costa Rica

Sierpe in the local indigenous language means snake, the the River Sierpe deserves the name. It winds in and around mangrove swamps that host all manner of wildlife. This is the view from a local hotel patio looking east over the river. The floating vegetation is Water Hyacinth. Tour boats from Sierpe give tours of the mangroves, Corcovado National Park and Isla Cano. There is also a shuttle to Drake Bay. Crocodiles pop up nearby hoping for fish heads or unwary dogs.
