How do Japanese people spend the New Year's Eve in Japan?
There is the big bell in the temple. This bell is made from coppers and it is very big. I stroked a temple bell. The sound of the bell makes me calm down. Also, I can feel New Year is coming. Therefore, anyone can do that. Striking the bell is the traditional event and it is called the New Year’s Eve bell. Also, it has a special rule. People start to strike the temple bell at p.m. 11:45. This number of times is 108 because a person has 108 evil passions, so people strike a temple bell to expel them and have a pure soul.
However, recently, the number of people go to the temple is decreasing. Really, I don’t go to the temple every year because I had plans such as hanging out with my friends and having part time jobs. In addition, the news reports that some people go abroad from the end of the year to New Year, so people don’t regard the New Year’s Eve as interesting. Actually, I want to go the temple and join the event every year and I also want people to do that.
