    Kasamori Kannon in Japan

    Naoki suzushika

    Kasamori kannon

When you hear the word temple or shrine, what things come to mind first? Is it old building or holy place? Of course, you have different ideas about it. But does anyone imagines of old wooden Japanese buildings? It is one kind of temple and shrine in the world. Japan is island country located next to China. By the way, my hometown is called “chounan mati” located in central Chiba prefecture. A famous shrine called “Kasamori Kannon” is located there. It is registered as an important cultural property and has pleasant surroundings. Kannon means a kind of mercy. The buildings are made entirely of wood except the roof. Have you seen such a wooden temple? If not, please see the photo above.

At the beginning of the New Year, a little festival has been held for decades. Sometimes a foreigner family goes there and praying. This place provides it comfortable air and great views.
Also, on the way to the “kasamori kannon”, there is a large unique tree called “kosazuke no kusu”.

This tree has a fantastic power for women. Do you see the big hole in the tree? It is important. Tradition says that if a woman can go through the hole, the tree will give them a healthy baby. So, kosazuke means “blessed with child”.

If you have an opportunity to visit Chiba prefecture in Japan, how about visiting this place? I hope a lot of people have an interest in “Kasamori Kannon” regardless of nationality.
