Red Bull Crashed Ice World Championship , Day 2
St. Paul, MN. January 25, 2013
Day two of Red Bull's "Crashed Ice"Ice Cross Downhill World Championship began this morning to relatively balmy temperatures of -8C. Last night's events were delayed for several hours because the extreme cold temperatures over the past several days (-34C) had caused the track's ice surface to chip and become brittle, which necessitated over spraying with water.
Today's big event is the International Shootout, which will consists of 100 international and 32 U.S. skaters will race for a spot in tomorrow's finals. The top 32 racers in today's run will automatically move on to the final round while skaters finishing in 33-64th place will compete in an elimination round later in the day, rounding out a final group of 64 which will advance to tomorrow's finals.
