Devastating Fire in Lake Placid, NY
During unbelievably cold temperatures with an arctic front passing by, a blaze broke out in the middle of the night in the small town of Lake Placid, NY. Many people travel to Lake Placid for the sights and Olympic memories. At about 12:00am on January 25, 2013 a fire broke out in a local business complex that spread across three different businesses that were attached. With temperatures reaching -37 degrees, the Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department, and surrounding departments, dispatched to the location of the blaze without any thought. Firefighters fought the blaze for hours, through the sunrise and into the morning hours. Word spread fast about this blaze and the small community all come together to share this tragic loss of these three businesses. The businesses included were Placid Boatworks, CakePlacid, and Rick's Taxi. The main focus at this time are the brave men and women that fought this blaze in such incredibly cold temperatures, and they deserve to be commended.
Here is a caption to the photo of an ice covered firefighter included:
"...This is a picture of one of the firemen that fought the fire that destroyed the building along with some local businesses in Lake Placid, NY this morning... mind you fighting the fire in -30 degree temperatures, and the Lake Placid Fire Department is a Volunteer Department. God Bless ALL the Firefighters that are out there today putting their lives in danger ... I personally think that this picture should get some National Attention as they say a picture is worth a 1000 words, and this pic says it all...
Sincerely,
Nicole Lewis
