Mali- Before the War
Several years ago we spent 2 weeks visiting Mali. We flew into the capital city, Bamako, met our driver and ventured into the countryside.
Our first impressions were a country full of friendly people just trying to survive. With few natural resources, most people try and make a meager living off the land. We sailed on the river Niger, visited Timbuktu and ended in the Dogon area where we witnessed cave burial sites which date back thousands of years.
Watching the current conflict in Mali makes one wonder what will happen to the people and children which we met.
Can or should the United States intervene?
