    Stand Your Ground Sheriffs

There have been many attempts, (some successful) over the years to implement gun control schemes and most certainly there will be more that come in the future. If there are any lessons to be learned in recent events it is that things can happen quickly and those who love liberty must be prepared to act at a moments notice.

For some people that means going to the place where they call out Molan Labe (Come and Get Them!) For some it is to threaten a hail of “Bullets First!” and cry “From My Cold Dead hands!” For others it is a call to political action to work within the system who call out “Ballots B4 Bullets!”

I wonder where this will lead us, and where it may lead us still, will we find ourselves buttoned down in a firefight with local law enforcement attempting to carry out unconstitutional orders?

Whether you consider it a legitimate fear or not for some it is a very real scenario. My family has lived in my county for over 130 years and I know many of the men and women of local law enforcement, the thought of being on opposite sides in such a conflict is troubling to me.

Each of us have our own limits as to what we will put up with and how far we can be pushed before we take action any action. For some writing a letter to the editor is hard to do, they feel the emotions but they struggle to put those emotions down on paper, others are men and women of action not words, words can be confusing actions speak volumes.

For others protesting, rallies, writing, come easily, they worry not about what others might think or the consequences when they reach their limit they open the window and scream to the world “I'm Madder than HELL and I'm NOT going to take it anymore!”

What I have seen recently in the past month is all of those people coming together in unison to speak out, to scream out at politicians and others that would use tragedy to pursue a political agenda that has nothing to do with controlling crime and everything to do with controlling people and gutting the second amendment.

One of the bright spots in all of this has been the number of County Sheriffs that have written letters and have spoken out against what they see as an unprecedented attack against the second amendment and our liberties in this country.

"Sheriffs have risen up all over our great nation to stand up against the unconstitutional gun control measures being taken, I applaud these public servants for their courage and conviction. I would encourage other Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers to add their voices to the growing numbers of faithful protectors of our freedom." Oath Keeper Sheriff Richard Mack

Sheriff Terry Box of Texas wrote about the impact that proposed legislation would; “seriously erode the constitutional rights of innocent and law abiding citizens. Neither I, nor any of my deputies, will participate in the enforcement of laws that violate our precious constitutional rights, including our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms”.

"Any rule, regulation, or executive order repugnant to the constitutional rights of the citizens of this County will be ignored by this Office, nor will this office, or the citizens, allow enforcement of unconstitutional activities by federal officers," Sheriff Gil Gilbertson Josephine County, Oregon.

“I will most certainly urge my fellow Sheriffs in the State of Missouri and across this great nation to rise to the defense and aid of all Americans should the federal government attempt to enact any legislation, or executive order that impedes, erodes, or otherwise diminishes their constitutional right to keep and bear arms. I will use all means legal to meet this solemn and sacred responsibility.”Sheriff Chuck Heiss of Johnson County, Missouri,

These are people, elected officials that understand that limiting and infringing on the rights of law abiding citizens does nothing to solve the problems of crime in this country. When you read their letters and hear their words you get the sense and understand that these are people who believe deeply in the Constitution and in the oaths that they have taken to protect it.

Whether you believe this is the proper stand for a Sheriff to take or not it is comforting to me to know that our local Sheriffs stand with the People, our Constitution and our Bill of Rights.

Our unalienable rights as given by God and expressed in the Bill of Rights are an acknowledgment of those rights existence, they are not bestowed upon us by the government. Our Constitution and Bill of Rights are the chains that bind government and if successfully thrown off the government would use chains to bind us all.

There are two cries in the wilderness of liberty tonight; the government is telling us that there are wolves in the forest, that there are demons all around us and that we only need to give up liberty to enjoy safety. The government is telling us “WE MUST ACT IN THE NAME OF PUBLIC SAFETY! GIVE US YOUR RIGHTS!” and If heeded by the people will be what enslaves us all.

The other voice that has cried out in the wilderness of liberty comes from our Oath Keepers, the men and women who have taken an oath that they understand and defend. The position they have taken shouts out “STAND UP! BE COUNTED! DEFEND LIBERTY!”

…................but in the quiet of the night if you listen, what you also hear is the whisper of the trees, the quiet noise of the forest as it calls out to all,

‘Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? If you love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, Go from us in peace. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen; As for me, give me liberty or give me death! ‘~Patrick Henry
