Naturalized citizens: Your thoughts on immigration reform
El Naturale? What's Native American for Immigration?
We are all immigrants to this coutry, did we forget? where did we? My ancestors are from Sweden and Germany. My wife's are from England, Ireland, Italy and Germany. Our diversity is what makes us great, can't we all get along and not live in fear? in the early 1900's many came to the USA through Ellis Island and saw Lady Liberty in the Harbor. Now in the early 2000's many do come from Mexico and Central and South American countries, but just today I saw an immigrant struggling here from Iraq, yes Iraq. All of us need to be welcoming and help them assimilate. We do need to keep our coutry and borders safe, but we can do it in a respectful manner for those who want to come here, contribute and build a future of possibilities like our fathters, grandfathers and great grandfathers and their families. We do need to do it responsibly as well. I think working together Republican, Democrats and Independents can get immigration reform done.. I have in my time helped families get loved ones to visit from another country (typically Mexico) their terminally ill loved ones in the hospital and "disappear" from the consult and their host sponsor and abuse the system. I think this is disrespectful to all Americans. Those ideas being proposed right now by Congress (by the great 8, Democrats and Republicans) to safeguard our safety while welcoming those who want to make a difference and become US citizens like our ancestors is a great thing for our country. Imagine what the Native Americans felt like with the influx of Anglo-Saxon Europeans. Or recall the feelings of Americans after WWII with the Japanese seeking refuge here. Imagine in 2100 who will our decendents fear or welcome to the USA? We are a great melting pot. Embrace it.
